Partner with Us: The Florida Community Resource Map

Florida Community Innovation (FCI) is a nonprofit empowering young innovators to build social services technologies for their communities.

We have pioneered a research-into-practice model that is grounded in university-level experiential learning for social good, with a focus on community listening. In plain language, we mentor college students as they learn by doing — engaging in research that they then act on with community partners, by building technology and running programs to address social problems.

Our flagship project is the Florida Community Resource Map. Students from multiple universities did the primary user research to scope the project, and Florida students have worked in interdisciplinary teams to iterate and shape it as a tool for social workers to find and manage resources about critical needs, including food and shelter.

The pilot of the resource map is underway in Holden Heights, Orlando!

Currently, there are two versions of the map:

1.      The legacy version at www.floridaresourcemap.orgThis version has resources from multiple community foundations.

2.      The new version of the map here at dev.floridaresourcemap.org. This version has updates vetted by our team for the best user experience including: a modernized design, mobile compatibility, an improved database, and new data fields in response to user feedback such as services provided and next steps. We are also actively changing this version based on feedback from community workers in Holden Heights.

– Individual nonprofits can add themselves to the map.

– Community foundations and other data partners can bulk upload data and get their own version of the map to embed on their website, as a digital access point for community members to find resources.

– Agencies can use the map for their social and community workers to find and manage resources.
